Hundreds of students, teachers and parents came out to mark the occasion. The event was one of a series planned to celebrate the Hawaiian Language Immersion Program's 20th anniversary on Maui. The program is a project of the state Department of Education that provides students in grades K to 12 with instruction in the Hawaiian language.
